Ohio OCEA Award Winner - 2007

Perry Street Bridge Replacement, 2007

Owner: Ohio Department of Transportation, District 2

Location: Napoleon, Henry County

Nominated by: Anthony D. Yacobucci, P.E., HNTB Ohio, Inc.

Description: Because of its deteriorated condition the historical Perry Street Bridge had to be replaced. The bridge is the only access across the Maumee River within 6-miles of Napoleon so schedule was critical. The bridge had to be demolished and replaced in one year to reduce the impact on the local economy. The community wanted a bridge that would look exactly like the old one, and it had to be constructed at the same location. Construction could not disturb the river bottom for two months because of fish spawning. Designers met these requirements with a combination of precast, prestressed construction that had never been used before. The bridge was replaced in only nine months.
