Replacement of the Rogers Road Bridge, 2003

Description: The Rogers Road Bridge, located on the Lake-Cuyahoga County line, is the gateway to the Cleveland Metroparks North Chagrin Reservation. the new structure replaces a circa 1959, two-span, two-lane bridge with a sharp curve and obsolete alignment. Safe speed on the old structure, which had a 4- ton load limit, was just 10 mph. The replacement structure had to provide continuity with a quarter mile of retaining structures and channel protection along the approaches while resolving the alignment deficiencies. The center pier had to be aligned with the flow direction to avoid flooding due to trapped ice flows during spring melt.
